About TETFAIR

TETFAIR is a collaborative initiative between Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and implemented by Innov8 Hub. The year-long program is designed to bridge the gap between academic research and real-world solutions. The program’s mission is to equip Nigerian researchers with the tools, resources, and mentorship they need to transform their innovative ideas into impactful products or services that address the nation’s most pressing challenges.

Through a combination of technical and business development bootcamps, mentorship, and Hands-on-experience, participants are equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate the complex landscape of innovation and entrepreneurship.

 

Our goal is simple: to help you develop your innovative research from an academic concept into a marketable Minimum Viable Product (MVP) that addresses real-world needs.

Eligibility Requirements

  • All team members must be a Lecturer, Researcher, or Technologist from a TETFund Beneficiary University, College of Education, or Polytechnic.

  • Applications must be submitted by a team of Three (3), consisting of a Team Leader and two additional members.

  • Each team member must possess skills and expertise pertinent to the proposed research project.

  • Each team must include at least one female team member.

  • All team members must demonstrate availability and willingness to fully partake in the design and development of the project throughout the program.

  • Only the Lead researcher is required to complete this form.

What is TETFAIR?

 TETFAIR (TETFund Alliance for Innovative Research) is a research commercialization program that helps researchers and innovators from Nigerian tertiary institutions translate their research outputs into commercially viable products and services.

What is the goal of the program?

Our goal is to help you develop your innovative research from an academic concept into a marketable Minimum Viable Product (MVP) that addresses real-world needs.

Who is eligible to apply?

Applicants must be academic staff or researchers in an official employment with a TETFund-beneficiary tertiary institution in Nigeria, Including Universities, Polytechnics & colleges of education.

How should teams be formed?

Applications must be submitted by a team of three (3) members. The team must collectively possess the necessary skills to develop and sustain the venture, including technical, business, and project management expertise.

The team leader is responsible for the careful selection of collaborators, as this foundational structure is crucial for the successful commercialization and long-term sustainability of the innovation. Teams must include a minimum of one female member.

Can an individual apply without a team?

 Individual applications are not encouraged. Applicants are advised to form a multidisciplinary team within their institution with at least one female.

What type of expertise or competence is expected?

Teams should demonstrate:

  • Strong technical or research competence in the project area
  • Understanding of the target market or problem
  • Commitment to product development
  • Willingness to engage in entrepreneurship training and mentoring for a 12-month program
Are women encouraged to apply?

Absolutely. TETFAIR strongly encourages applications from female researchers and innovators. Gender balance within teams is a key selection consideration.

How do I apply for TETFAIR?

 Applications are submitted online through the TETFAIR portal. You’ll need to complete the application form and upload various supporting documents.

What makes a strong application?

Successful applications clearly describe the research innovation, its potential for commercialization, the target users, and the team’s readiness to participate in product development.

Is there an application fee?

 No. There is no fee to apply or participate in TETFAIR.

How long is the TETFAIR program?

 The program typically runs for 9–12 months, combining virtual and physical sessions.

Where are physical sessions held?

 Physical sessions and prototyping activities are hosted at Innov8 Hub, Abuja, where teams have access to mentorship and fabrication facilities.

What support do teams receive?

 Teams receive capacity building, mentorship, prototyping support, business development training, and exposure to investors and industry partners.

Does TETFAIR provide funding?

 The program covers training, travel, accommodation, and prototype development costs. Additional seed or venture support may be accessible for outstanding teams.

What happens after the program ends?

 Teams are supported to protect their intellectual property, and connect with industry partners and investors for scale-up opportunities.

Will participation affect my job at my institution?

 No. TETFAIR is designed to complement academic roles, and participants remain staff of their institutions while engaged in the program.
