The Research for Impact Initiative 5.0 came to an end on 26th May, 2023. R4i is an initiative of TETFund in collaboration with Innov8 Hub, designed for members of Nigerian academia to turn their research ideas into innovative solutions.
Research for Impact Initiative 5.0: The Distribution
At R4i 5.0, participants went through the critical processes of turning ideas into innovation. Distributed into teams, they addressed challenges in line with the United Nations’ SDGs. Under the guidance of experts and mentors, each team developed a functional prototype.
Research for Impact Initiative 5.0: The Teams
Team No Poverty developed a Float House (Gimbaliya), constructed to address the challenge of destruction during floods. It uses low-density materials that float on water. Team Zero Hunger developed an Automated Ultrasonic Solar-Powered Sprayer for the control of pests in an eco-friendly manner. The Quality Education Team developed E-Access, a mobile application that caters for lecturers who create lecture materials, and students in need of lecture materials. Team Responsible Consumption & Production developed a Smart Grain Storage System, an IoT approach that limits pest infestation.
The highlights of the event included a recap video of R4i 5.0, screened at the closing event. R4i teams also pitched their innovations to guests in attendance.
