My R4i Experience: ENGR. SALAWU SALISU IJIJI

From Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja

I recently had the opportunity to participate in the research for impact initiative, aimed at enhancing participants’ skills in conducting impactful research. R4i 22 spanned for two weeks, covering various aspects of research methodologies, communications strategies, and practical applications. Overall, R4i provides a robust foundation for critical thinking, problem-solving, and contributing meaningfully to the broader knowledge landscape.

The Research for Impact initiative provided valuable insights into designing research projects strategically, emphasizing the importance of aligning research goals with societal needs. A significant focus was placed on communicating research findings clearly and compellingly. I learned practical tips for creating accessible and engaging presentations, ensuring that the impact of the research extends beyond the academic circle. The training highlighted the significance of involving the community in the research process. Understanding and incorporating the perspectives of stakeholders proved crucial for achieving meaningful impact. Ethical considerations in research were thoroughly discussed, emphasizing the responsibility researchers have in ensuring their work benefits society while minimizing potential harm. In addition, interactive sessions and hands-on activities allowed me to apply theoretical concepts to real- world scenarios.

Emotional Intelligence was a transformative force in my life, particularly during my research for innovation training. The skill set, encompassing self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy and effective interpersonal relationships, have proven invaluable in navigating the complexities of innovative endeavors. As I delved into the world of research for innovation, I quickly realized that success extended beyond technical skills. Emotional intelligence became the linchpin, enabling me to navigate uncertainties, collaborate effectively with diverse teams and maintain resilience in the face of challenges.

The Research for Impact initiative has been a transformative experience, shaping my perspective on research and innovation. The acquired knowledge has not only broadened my understanding of advanced methodologies but has also instilled a proactive and collaborative mindset. As I move forward, I am equipped with the tools to contribute meaningfully to innovative projects, inspire my students and foster a culture of continuous learning within my academic community. This training has undeniably been a catalyst for personal and professional growth, and I am eager to apply these insights to drive positive change in the realm of research and Innovation.
