On May 2nd, 30 eager engineering students from Veritas University embarked on an immersive visit to Innov8 Hub. Our vibrant impact lab, brimming with cutting-edge equipment and expert mentors, opened their eyes to a world of possibilities. Following a comprehensive tour, the students participated in an interactive session. They delved into the fascinating world of Arduino, explored the intricacies of embedded systems, and got hands-on with C++ programming. An insightful Q&A session with our technical team capped off the day, leaving the students buzzing with newfound knowledge and a spark of inspiration.

Blooming Heritage Secondary School: Igniting Young Minds

On May 3rd, we welcomed 23 enthusiastic students from Blooming Heritage Secondary School, the future innovators and venture creators of Nigeria. With wide eyes and boundless curiosity, they explored Innov8 Hub, the epicenter of innovation, startup incubation, and venture creation. Their excitement was palpable as they interacted with our experts and traversed the hub’s innovative spaces. The highlight was a captivating drone show put on by our Simulation Lab, leaving them awestruck. The day culminated in a dynamic Q&A session with our experts, where the students eagerly picked their brains and envisioned their own entrepreneurial journeys.

Introduction

Innov8 Hub was honored to host participants of the Senior Executive Course (SEC) 46, 2024, of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, on the 17th of April, 2024. The visit, aligning with NIPSS’ mandate of promoting policy solutions for national development, focused on exploring the role of innovation in driving Nigeria’s digital economy and fostering job creation.

NIPSS is Nigeria’s foremost ‘Think-tank’ with the primary objective of developing a top-class of technocrats of high intellectual capacity, who conceptualize and anchor the implementation of innovative policy initiatives and strategies critical for national Development.

As part of the curriculum, participants took a study tour of some strategic institutions in Nigeria and Innov8 Hub was selected. The theme for SEC 46, 2024, is “Digital Economy, youth empowerment and sustainable job creation in Nigeria.

The visit commenced with a warm welcome from Innov8 Hub’s management. Setting the tempo, Director General of NIPSS, Prof. Ayo Omotayo, captivated the audience with his opening remarks. A proclaimed tech enthusiast who returned to Nigeria in 2004, Prof. Omotayo expressed his profound admiration for Innov8 Hub’s unique and inspiring space. He declared, “Since my return, I haven’t witnessed anything quite like Innov8 Hub in Nigeria.” This sentiment resonated deeply, highlighting the transformative potential of innovation hubs in shaping the nation’s future.

Innov8 Hub, Nigeria’s leading innovation, venture creation and startup incubation melting pot, recently welcomed His Excellency, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, and his team for a tour of the facility. This visit underscores Innov8 Hub’s commitment to fostering collaboration between key stakeholders and sectors to strengthen Nigeria’s innovation and enterprise ecosystem.

During the visit, Governor Adeleke and his team were led on a comprehensive tour by Innov8 Hub’s General Manager, Mr. Meir Dagan. The tour showcased the hub’s cutting-edge impact labs, facilities, and the expertise driving groundbreaking innovations at the forefront of technology.

The culmination of the 20th Edition of the Research for Impact initiative took place on February 16, 2024. Notable dignitaries, including the Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, and the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Arc. Sonny Echono graced the event with their presence.

The gathering commenced with a recap video, skillfully crafted by the Communications Department, highlighting the accomplishments of the 20th batch. Following this, the Executive Secretary of TETFund took the stage, expressing his delight at the Fund’s significant achievements through its various initiatives and interventions. 

Speech by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives

Addressing the audience next, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives praised the remarkable innovations emerging from Nigerian Academia. He commended the collaborative efforts of TETFund and Innov8 Hub in fostering such groundbreaking initiatives.

The Unveiling of Prototypes

The event’s focal point was a captivating video pitch session featuring the diverse teams from R4i 20. These teams, representing five different institutions—The Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi; Ekiti State University; Federal University, Dutse; Nnamdi Azikiwe University; and Port Harcourt Polytechnic—presented their innovative projects.

TEAM 1 introduced ‘EcoBriq8,’ a revolutionary innovation producing briquettes with higher energy efficiency and significantly lower emissions compared to traditional fuels.

TEAM 2 showcased ‘F-Seedlink,’ an app designed to connect farmers with high-quality rice seed suppliers and expert advisory services.

TEAM 3 presented ‘DOPIN-Strip,’ an innovation aimed at combating the alarming trend of palm oil adulteration.

TEAM 4 demonstrated ‘BinderRx,’ a machine capable of producing starch binders.

TEAM 5 unveiled ‘S-Sizzlers,’ a solar-driven fish dryer.
